Land registration process

Introduction

This guide covers the registration process, from application through to confirmation of title.

Most applications for registration are accepted first time, however, applications can be rejected at any stage of the registration process.

There are four major steps to the registration process:

  1. a basic initial examination of the application on the day of its submission
  2. a more detailed examination and categorisation of the application as either standard or complex
  3. an examination of the plans, as compared to the Ordnance Survey map
  4. a check to make sure the application meets the legal requirements for a registered plot

If your application passes all these checks, you have a registered title. We’ll send you an email notification on the completion of your application.

See the subsequent pages of this guide for more information about what we check at each step.
